SDGs

We’re always busy. Promoting all 17 SDGs.

The Sustainability Development Goals are just something for governments to deal with?! We certainly don’t think that. Which is why we are also doing our bit towards achieving all of the SDGs that the United Nations agreed to in 2015.

Getting serious about sustainability with the SDGs

Everyone was very positive when the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were passed by the UN when it met in Paris in 2015. Never before had the international community tackled the subject of sustainability in such depth and breadth nor had it defined it so clearly. Before this, the UN’s measures and goals had focused more on conventional development aid. In contrast, the SDGs have finally made industrial nations face up to their responsibilities and forced them to question their own policies, values and strategies. And across a whole range of different areas. From eliminating poverty through to developing communities. From water supply through to education and gender equality.

A good approach, tricky to implement

If you take a look at to what extent these sustainability development goals have been achieved both generally and in the individual countries, then it’s really quite sobering. Events – in particular the covid pandemic and the constantly raging crises and wars – have resulted in many of the SDGs heading in the wrong direction. An interim report published by the United Nations in 2022, for example, concludes that the progress made in tackling global poverty between 2015 and 2019 was completely wiped out by the covid pandemic. Things are not much better with the other SGDs either. Which means that even greater efforts will have to be made in the future if the 2030 goals are to be reached.

If the clean water and sanitation SDG is to be achieved by 2030 then there must be a fourfold increase in the pace of progress.
