REMONDIS has a global workforce of over 40,000 people. People who work in a whole range of professions and yet who all have one common goal: to conserve our planet's raw materials and protect our climate. Both these factors are extremely important in today's world of work, where increasingly people are looking for jobs that reflect their lifestyles – evaluating them according to criteria such as sustainability and meaningfulness. Not only are our operations themselves meaningful but also the actual manner in which we work. Our focus is on creating flat hierarchies, high levels of responsibility and great opportunities for our employees to carve out an attractive career for themselves as well as on offering our staff ongoing further training courses and the opportunity to take part in our international traineeship programme

Work is not a privilege but should be available to everyone irrespective of their level of education or social background. This has been one of REMONDIS' guiding principles since its foundation around 90 years ago. Highly qualified managers can find a job at our company as can workers who may otherwise have problems getting a foothold on the job market. Our aim is to strengthen social equilibrium and promote social cohesion.

Over 1,100 apprentices work at REMONDIS every single year. Not only the quantity but – and above all – the quality of our apprenticeships is impressive as we guarantee that the same high standards of vocational training are reached across the whole of our group. Admittedly, we are not being completely altruistic here – as today’s apprentices are tomorrow’s managers. REMONDIS and its public private partnerships offer over 60 apprenticeship courses in both commercial and industrial professions – from training to become a roofer, all the way through to qualifying as an IT specialist. Moreover, we also offer higher level apprenticeships, where our apprentices not only gain their vocational qualifications but also study part time at university to receive a degree in, for example, economics or information technology.
It has become a tradition for our Lippe Plant in Lünen to take part in the annual ‘Apprenticeship Evening’. This event enables young people to visit us and find out more about our apprenticeship courses.
EURAWASSER Nord – a REMONDIS Group company – has already been presented with the Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Top Training Company’ (Top-Ausbildungsbetrieb) award seven times.
Being a sustainable employer also means investing in our own managers and specialists. This is precisely what we do with our traineeship programme, where we offer graduates the best possible start to their professional careers. We believe that it is not only important here to ensure they learn all about the depth and breadth of the relevant fields of business but also that they understand our values and what sustainability really means. The wide range of further training and qualification courses that we offer our trainees also focus on developing their personal and social skills.

The more people that make sure their work helps protect the environment and curb climate change, the better. Which is why we support everything that turns the spotlight on jobs that are good for the environment. One example of this is our membership in the Netzwerk Grüne Arbeitswelt [Green Working Environment Network]. Since its foundation in 2018, this association has been collaborating with companies, educational partners and specialist institutions to establish sustainable working and business practices in as many sectors and fields of business as possible. Their declared goal is, above all, to inspire future managers to promote green working environments. A goal that we fully support and that we ourselves are looking to achieve each and every day.

We support companies and local authorities all around the globe to achieve their sustainability goals. Both the way we commit to and invest in these efforts can differ greatly depending on their needs. On the one hand, we help less developed regions to improve their living conditions and to establish environmental standards. On the other, we are a sought-after partner for regions that require complex innovations and technologies.
Examples of our international activities include our plastics recycling facilities in Taiwan and our sustainable water management operations in India, all of which are run strictly in line with the highest sustainability standards. Furthermore, our subsidiary REMEX operates a state-of-the-art facility in Singapore to recycle IBA from household waste incineration plants. This plant is an important milestone for this Asian island city state on its path towards setting up a zero waste economy.
